About this print

  • Horse head split into black and white halves
  • Crimson and ochre drips down the dark side
  • Painterly style on a warm parchment ground
  • A modern western focal point

Split Reins is abstract horse art about the two sides of a spirit. A horse's head faces forward, divided down the middle: the left side dark and streaked with crimson and ochre that drip down like desert sun melting into night, the right side pale white with soft gray shadows.

The painterly style and warm parchment ground give it the feel of expressive modern western art. Strength and serenity, wildness and restraint, held in one face. It draws inspiration from the visual language of masks and the West.

It makes a strong focal point over an entry console, a bed, or a sofa, and it pairs well with leather, wood, and a cowboy hat on the table. Part of the Cowboys & Cowgirls collection. Choose a matte print, or have it framed by hand in Phoenix in black, white, walnut, or natural wood, with or without a white mat.

Where it looks best

  • entryway over a console
  • bedroom over the bed
  • living room over a sofa
  • office

A good gift for horse lovers and collectors of modern western art.

Good to know

What is the difference between Print and Framed Print?

Print ships as the artwork alone on heavyweight matte stock. Framed Print arrives in your choice of black, white, walnut, or natural wood frames, ready to hang.

How long until my order ships?

Every Frontier Prints piece is made to order. Prints ship in 3 to 5 business days, framed pieces in 5 to 7.

Will the colors match my screen?

Screens differ, so expect slight shifts in color. Wood grain on walnut frames is unique to each piece.

Do framed prints have glass?

No. Framed pieces have an acrylic or styrene front, never glass. It is lighter than glass and much less likely to shatter, so it is safer to ship and to hang.

Are prints signed or numbered?

No. Prints are open edition and are not signed or numbered.
