Western Art Gifts: Prints for Every Cowboy, Cowgirl and Road Tripper on Your List

A print is a good gift when it says you were paying attention. Start with the person, then the budget, then the frame. This guide walks through all three.

Start with the person, not the print

The best art gifts connect to something real: a place they have been, an animal they grew up with, a weekend tradition, a word they say every day. Before you scroll the whole shop, write down three things the person loves. Nine times out of ten, one of them points straight at a print.

Then look at their walls, or picture them. Do they lean warm and woody, with leather and rust colors? Or clean and pale, with black and white and a lot of open space? A warm person gets a warm print. A minimalist gets something quiet. That one check keeps a gift off the closet shelf.

If you only have a minute, our gift guide collects the prints people buy as gifts most, all in one place.

Western art gifts by who you are shopping for

  • The rodeo fan: Admit One is a burnt orange rodeo ticket with a bronc rider and WILD WEST SHOW across it. For anyone who grew up at the county fair or still spends weekends at the arena, Raised on Rodeo says it outright.
  • The dad, the granddad, the quiet cowboy: The Rider is a cowboy in profile under a black hat on rust red. No story, no slogan, just presence.
  • The horse lover: Soft Hold shows two horses leaning close in black and white. The Galloper is a tan mustang on deep green for someone raised around a barn.
  • The national park traveler: Grand Canyon Glow, Sedona and the rest of the Westward Wonder travel posters name real places in big retro letters. Pick the one they have stood in.
  • The new homeowner: Bold HOWDY is a friendly black and cream greeting for an entry wall. It is the gift that gets hung first.
  • The rancher or landowner: Fence Lines is a split fence post and barbed wire running to the horizon in black and white.
  • The Texan: The Watcher is a minimalist longhorn on sage, and Bandera is a travel poster for the town that calls itself the Cowboy Capital of the World.
  • The sci-fi fan: Space Cowboy puts a rider at the edge of a crater under a giant striped planet.

Three gifts that fit a lot of people: the rodeo fan, the quiet cowboy and the horse lover.

Soft Hold art: two haltered horses in black and white, a dark horse resting its head over one with a pale mane, framed and hanging in a styled room

For a couple, pick something about the two of them rather than either one. Soft Hold was made for exactly that: two horses resting together, nobody going anywhere. For a housewarming, pick something for the home itself, like a greeting for the door or a place near their new town.

Gifts for kids, teens and new parents

Kids' rooms change fast, so pick art that is cheerful now and still fine in five years. HOWDY Skies in sky blue and HOWDY Sugar in bubblegum pink are easy wins for a little one. Western Quilt is a patchwork grid of boots, hats, cacti and quilt stars that suits a nursery or a kid's room, and The Runner is a friendly roadrunner on sunbaked yellow.

For a baby shower, a print is a gift the parents will actually keep. Go 11 x 14 or 16 x 20 in a White or Natural Wood frame so it sits over a dresser or rocker. Our cowboy nursery decor guide covers soft picks and safe hanging in more detail.

Teens usually want something with a little more edge. Space Cowboy and the rest of the Space Cadets prints bring a retro sci-fi look to a bedroom or a first apartment, and an unframed print is easy to take along to a dorm.

Give a set instead of a single print

If you want the gift to fill a wall, give two or three prints that belong together. Our wall sets take the guesswork out: each one is a small group of prints chosen to hang in a row.

  • Rodeo Night: a ticket, a slogan and a shout, for a game room or bar wall.
  • Red Rock Road Trip: Sedona, Moab and the Grand Canyon for the traveler who has done the loop.
  • The Howdy Trio: one greeting in brown, blue and pink.
  • Sundown Riders: three riders in late light, for a living room or bedroom.

Another way to do it: one larger print for the main wall and a small 8 x 10 of a related print for a desk or a shelf. Keep both in the same frame color and they read as a pair even in different rooms.

Western art gifts by budget

Every print in the shop is priced the same way, so budget comes down to size and whether you frame it. Frame color never changes the price. The table uses the prices at the time of writing. The product page always shows the current price.

What each budget buys in Frontier prints, unframed and framed

$100 to $20036 x 48 ($110)11 x 14 ($110), 12 x 18 ($135), 16 x 20 ($185)
$200 and upTwo or more prints18 x 24 ($250) up to 36 x 48 ($550)

A white mat adds $20 to any framed piece. Unframed prints are the best value at big sizes: a 24 x 36 print is under $100 and fills the wall over a sofa. Print-only orders over $100 after discounts also ship free in the US, so two mid-size prints for two different people often cost less to send than one.

Framed or unframed for a gift

A framed piece is the complete gift. It arrives ready to hang, and the person does not have to find a frame, measure or make another trip to the store. If you know their walls, go framed.

An unframed print is the smarter pick when you do not know their taste in frames, when they are about to move, or when the budget is tight and the size matters more. It ships flat in a rigid mailer or rolled in a tube, which also makes it easy to tuck under a tree or into a suitcase.

  • Safest frame color when you are guessing: Black. It suits most walls and most prints.
  • Warmest choice for a ranch, cabin or leather living room: Walnut.
  • Lightest choice for a bright, white room or a kid's room: White or Natural Wood.
  • Safest size when you have not seen the wall: 16 x 20 or 18 x 24. Big enough to matter, small enough to fit almost anywhere.

How early to order, gift notes and returns

Every piece is made to order in the USA, so give it time. An unframed print takes 3 to 5 business days to make, a framed piece 5 to 7, and shipping takes 3 to 7 business days after that. For a birthday, an anniversary or the holidays, order a few weeks ahead, and earlier still for a framed piece. If the date is close, choose an unframed print, which ships sooner.

You can add a gift note to your order. If you are shipping straight to the person, it is how they will know the print came from you.

If it is not quite right, returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery when the piece is in its original condition. If anything arrives damaged, we replace it free. The details are on our shipping and returns page.

Questions and answers

Prints are made to order in 3 to 5 business days, framed pieces in 5 to 7, and shipping takes 3 to 7 business days after that. Order a few weeks ahead of any date that matters.

What if the gift is the wrong size or style?
