Can You Frame Posters Without Glass? Western Print Tips

đŸ–Œïž Can You Frame Posters Without Glass? Western Print Tips

It’s a common question: do you have to use glass when framing a poster or print? The short answer: no. In fact, some of the best western-style displays skip it entirely.

Here’s what to consider when deciding how to frame your Frontier Prints.

đŸ§± When to Skip the Glass

Glass isn’t required if:

  • Your print is already sealed or laminated
  • You want a softer, glare-free look
  • You’re going for a rustic or matte finish

Many of our customers hang “The Hat Hook” or “HOWDY Dust” prints without glass for a more casual, vintage look.

✅ Alternatives That Work

  • No-glass frames: Let the texture of the paper show. Best in low-humidity spaces.
  • Matboard with open-face: Feels archival without being shiny.
  • Float mounting: Secure the print on top of the matboard with open sides.

Want more protection? Use non-glare acrylic instead of traditional glass—lightweight and shatter-resistant.

đŸȘ” Western Style, No Shine

Western prints look best when they feel real. Letting the texture show—without a reflective barrier—can actually make the art feel more grounded and connected to your space.

If you're aiming for warmth and honesty, glass might be optional. Style, however, is not.
