Start with one strong silhouette

Black and white gives you one job: get the contrast right. A print with a clear subject and open space around it will carry a wall by itself. Shadow of a Rider is the easy first pick, a lone cowboy backlit with his shadow pulled long across the dirt. For a quieter wall, Hollow Turn and Fence Lines do the same work with ranch land instead of a rider. Hang the center around 57 inches. Over a sofa or a bed, go wider than feels safe. A 24x36 framed piece is $350 and it sits right over most sofas.

Deep shadows like these hold up well on a dark wall.

Mix a rider, a horse and a word

Three pieces is usually the sweet spot. One figure, one animal, one piece of type. Split Reins or Soft Hold bring the horses. Bold HOWDY gives the group somewhere to land without adding color. More on the palette in our black and white western decor guide, and sizing in the size and frame guide.

  • Use one frame color across the whole group. Black reads sharpest with this work, walnut warms it up in a room full of wood and leather.
  • Leave 2 to 3 inches between frames so the set reads as one shape.
  • Add the slim white mat only on the piece you want to sit quietest. It costs $20 more at any size.

Questions and answers

What size cowboy print should I buy?

For a sofa or a bed, 24x36 or 20x30 framed. For a hallway or a small entry wall, 16x20 or 11x14. Framed sizes run from $80 at 8x10 to $550 at 36x48, and unframed prints start at $40.

Is there glass over the framed pieces?

No. Framed pieces have an acrylic or styrene front instead, so they ship flat in a protective box and arrive ready to hang. Every piece is made to order and framed by hand in Phoenix.

How fast do orders ship?

Unframed prints usually ship within 3 to 5 business days of your order. Orders with a framed piece ship within 5 to 7 business days. Once it is on the truck, carriers estimate 3 to 7 business days in transit, and you get a tracking number as soon as it ships.
